Angela B. Freeman is a Partner and Intellectual Property (IP)/Patent Attorney in the Indianapolis office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. In 2023, Angela became the first African-American female capital partner in the headquarters office and the IP department of her AmLaw 100 law firm. Prior to her legal career, Angela had over 15 years as a biologist mostly in research and clinical development at Eli Lilly & Co.
Angela began her legal practice as a law clerk while attending law school at night. Currently, Angela assists clients in procuring patent rights worldwide for highly technical subject matter, particularly in the food, agricultural, pharmaceutical, life sciences/biotech, and renewable energy industries. Angela's practice also includes agreements and opinions, performing IP due diligence during mergers and acquisitions, and procuring trademark and copyright registrations for her clients. Angela’s practice focuses on helping women, diverse, and small businessowners protect their IP.
Throughout her career, Angela has been a recognized diversity champion and leader in the STEM and legal fields, as well as in her community. During her 7 years of leadership on the board of a local non-profit, Women & Hi Tech, Angela became the first diverse and African-American President in the 24 year history of the organization. Angela is currently the host of the Indianapolis Business Journal’s award-winning monthly podcast, The Freedom Forum with Angela B. Freeman, which explores the intersection of business, race, and gender in Indiana.
Personally, Angela’s proudest accomplishments are being the wife of Cliff and mother of two young adult sons, Cameron and Elijah.
