Meet our first Boss Babe Brunch 2022 Speaker, Emily Longnecker

Emily is a 7-time Emmy Award-Winning Journalist, her career in television news has taken her from Washington, DC where she first worked behind the scenes, covering stories on Capitol Hill to several smaller television markets in Upstate New York and Pennsylvania, where she worked as a reporter and anchor.

Emily spent three years at the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati before coming to Indianapolis where she’s worked at WTHR-TV as one of their night-side reporters since 2007.

Emily’s work has also been recognized by the Indiana Chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists, the Indiana Broadcasters Association, and The Associated Press Broadcasters Associations of both Indiana and Pennsylvania.

Most recently, Emily was invited to New York City and back to her former station in Altoona, Pennsylvania to recount her experiences covering the crash of United Flight 93 on September 11th, 2001 when she was just a cub reporter.

Emily’s also recounted her work covering September 11th in the book “Women Journalists at Ground Zero.” During the course of her career, Emily has been featured on A & E’s “The First 48” and Investigation Discovery’s series, “The Shift.”

Emily holds a Masters's Degree in Public Policy and Broadcast Journalism from The American University in Washington, DC. She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and French from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.

In her free time, Emily enjoys running and training for half marathons, paddle-boarding, and kayaking at Eagle Creek. Emily loves attending live music concerts and boasts that she was blessed to have seen Prince 4 times in concert.   When it comes to living musical performances here in Indy, you will usually find Emily in the first few rows at a Babyface concert when he returns to perform in his hometown of Indianapolis because he’s her favorite 90’s RnB singer.

At the start of the pandemic, Emily interviewed the Grammy award-winning and critically acclaimed musician and singer via zoom about his experience battling Covid. Emily calls it a career highlight that she’ll never forget.

The western Pennsylvania native is an avid reader and political junkie. Emily was born and raised in Bradford, Pennsylvania, but has traveled all over the world. During her time in Indianapolis, Emily has been invited to speak in front of several groups and help emcee fundraisers for organizations she holds dear to her heart, like Coburn Place Safe Haven and The Independence Academy.
In recent years, Emily has been invited to speak about her experience surviving an attack in broad daylight near downtown Indianapolis and how that day impacted her life.

Emily has also been a contributing writer for Hope Magazine for Women and spoken at one of their many events. Her favorite movie is “The Godfather” followed by “Jaws”.  Emily is also a huge Star Wars fan.

After more than a decade in the Circle City, Emily now considers Indianapolis her second home. Emily feels blessed to interact, know and love several “Boss Babes” who enrich her life.

One of Emily’s favorite quotes comes from her mom who told her growing up:
